The Challenge
A manufacturer of modern coffee machines needed a compact computer that could fit into the narrow space behind the beverage selection screen. The requirements were specific:
Minimal dimensions
The space behind the machine's display is limited to a few centimetres. A standard PC simply does not fit.
Minimal heat output
Any heat dissipation within the enclosed space could affect beverage quality and component lifespan.
Automatic start-up
In the event of a power cut or disconnection, the computer must start up automatically without human intervention.
Full HD/4K video
Smooth playback of advertising clips and an interactive menu with animations is required.
The IWILL Solution
We used the NANO Series (Ultra-Compact PC) -- an ultra-compact Mini PC with a fanless design:
Pocket-sized form factor
At just 127x127x37mm, the NANO series fits literally behind any display. A VESA mounting plate allows it to be fixed directly to the back of the screen without taking up additional space.
Auto Power On
A BIOS setting for automatic start-up when mains power is applied -- a critical function during power cuts. The machine recovers on its own, without the need for a technician on site.
Energy efficiency
Low power consumption under 15W (TDP 6-15W), which reduces the operator's overall running costs and minimises heat output within the enclosed space of the machine.
4K graphics for advertising
Support for up to 3x 4K@60Hz displays via HDMI 2.0. Smooth playback of advertising clips whilst the customer waits for their beverage. Interactive touch menu with animations.
Result
Modernised customer experience with an interactive touch interface and the ability to remotely change prices and advertisements via the internet. The operator manages the content of hundreds of machines from a single web portal, without the need for a physical visit.
